Anthony Child continues transmissions via his purpose built reissues imprint SRX, this time resurrecting his 1996 debut Surgeon LP Communications. Originally released via Downwards, Communications was the first full length that crystallised the producers’ now legendary, dry Birmingham techno sound; starting with the tempered percussive jack of ‘Syllable’ before unleashing the strident synth slashes on ‘Cable’, which really penetrate the cortex. Similarly unforgiving is the deluge of abrasive drums on ‘Wire’, whilst ‘Wave’ works in a more melodic synth line. The final pairing of ‘Particle’ and ‘Optic’ are refined, stripped pieces of pounding techno that’ll never go out of fashion and here, purposefully re-mastered from the original DAT’s, we’re able to appreciate their minimalistic beauty as Child originally intended.
